Palms Polycultural Pentecost Party

On Pentecost, believers in Jesus were inspired to speak in many languages (Acts 2:5-13). It is a symbolic representation of our “… multilingual, multicultural, multiracial mission” where with open palms we “… cooperate across cultures in order to achieve a just, sustainable, interdependent and peaceful world free of poverty.”  As Paul writes in Galatians 3:28: “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.”

 

We have not as yet arrived at this vision.  Too often fear of the “other” divides us, and divided we worry that giving opportunity to others means losing opportunities for ourselves, rather than allowing our diversity to create more opportunity for all.  Pentecost and Palms invite us to open our palms and our hearts to all people, even and especially those who do not share our language and culture.

So we are inviting you to host a

Yeah, Polycultural is usually a term reserved for agriculture and it could be argued that one alliteration too many has led me to a tautology.  You see I really want you to think about this party because with very little work it embodies a great message and has the potential to bolster funds that allow us to recruit prepare send and support the volunteers being requested by global communities looking to build skills and reduce poverty.
